A group of secondary school students are making waves in the world of agriculture with their innovative project: an automated soil acidity control system. This system addresses the critical issue of maintaining optimal soil conditions for plant growth.
The system works by continuously monitoring the pH level of the soil using sensors. If the soil is acidic, it applies powdered lime and increased irrigation to neutralise the acidity. Conversely, if the soil is alkaline, it applies sulphur and iron sulphate to counteract the alkalinity. By ensuring optimal pH levels, this system has the potential to revolutionise farming practices, leading to improved crop yields, efficient resource management and a future of sustainable agriculture.
